Below are the different ways you can contribute to ICSM 2007:
For regular papers, please go to the Call for Papers page.
The Doctoral Symposium track is for those who are currently working on or who have recently completed (i.e., since 1st August 2006) their PhD thesis. The track offers an opportunity to present research problems, solution directions, results obtained thus far, and research plans towards the completion of the PhD studies. Participants will be able to discuss their PhD plans with fellow PhD students, as well as with participants of the ICSM conference who are active and established researchers in related areas.
The papers should be a 2-page summary of your PhD project and include the technical problem to be solved explaining its importance; the research hypothesis or questions; a sketch of the proposed solution; the expected contributions of your PhD research; results you have booked so far; the methods you use to conduct your research; and a plan for evaluating your work and presenting evidence of the validity of your results. The accepted papers will appear in the ICSM proceedings.
Submissions
Please send your two page research summary paper, along with a letter of your advisor approving the submission, and the presentation if your paper is accepted, to icsm-phd@ai.univ-paris8.fr. Please indicate in the title "Doctoral Symposium Paper". The format of your paper should conform to the standard IEEE two column conference paper format (see here for details).
PhD students are expected to register for the conference and present their accepted paper in the special Doctoral Symposium session part of the main conference.
Important Dates
Submission deadline: May 4, 2007
Notification of Acceptance: June 1, 2007
Camera-ready version: July 6, 2007
The Industry Track of the ICSM 2007 conference aims to bring together people from both academia and industry in a venue that highlights practical and real world studies of software maintenance. This track aims to foster mutually beneficial links between those engaged in scientific research and the practitioners working to make software maintenance efficient.
The objective of the Industry Track is to discuss results (both good and bad), obstacles, and lessons learned associated with applying software maintenance practices in the "real world". Experiences from practitioners provide valuable input into future research directions and allow others to learn from successes and failures. In addition, sharing lessons learned between practitioners can help the IT industry to improve their work practices.
The presentation should describe the business/scientific problem, the approach used, the current state of the project, an evaluation of the benefits, and future developments. Both case studies of practices describing the application of one or more software engineering maintenance practice(s) in an industrial or organizational setting, and experience reports of projects providing a critical discussion of experiences gained in software maintenance projects are welcome. This will give you the opportunity to present your organization/project to the Software Maintenance Community and let scientists know how software maintenance is carried out in your organization.
Please direct all questions to icsm-industry@ai.univ-paris8.fr.
How to submit
Submissions of proposals for the Industry Track must:
- adhere to the conference proceedings format (see here for details)
- have a maximum of 4 pages that describe the state-of-the-art, experience report or survey report from real projects, industrial practices and models, how it relates to other industrial or research efforts, including references, and what the learned lessons are
- be submitted before the Industry Track submission deadline, namely May 4 2007, to icsm-industry@ai.univ-paris8.fr
Presentation
Accepted papers will be allocated 4 pages in the conference proceedings and the presentation will be scheduled into the conference program.

Software Engineering is concerned with the analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance of large software systems. ICSM 2007 (The 23rd IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance) is a renowned forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent advances, experiences, and challenges in the field of software maintenance engineering.
The Tool Demonstrations track is an important part of the conference with the goal to allow live presentation of new research tool prototypes. We solicit proposals for tool demonstrations related to software engineering, evolution, and maintenance. Tools can range from mature prototypes to fully developed products that are being prepared for commercialisation. Commercial products and products that are currently being commercialised cannot be accepted. The demonstrations are intended to highlight scientific contributions. For further clarification, please contact the Tool Demonstrations Organizers.
We want to specially encourage submitting tool demonstration proposals in addition to full scientific papers. Whereas a scientific paper is intended to give the background information and point out the scientific contribution of a new software engineering approach, the tool demonstration provides a good opportunity to show how the scientific approach has been transferred into a running tool prototype.
How to submit
Submissions of proposals for formal tool demonstrations must:
- adhere to the conference proceedings format (see here for details)
- have a maximum of 2 pages that describe the technology or approach, how it relates to other industrial or research efforts, including references, and what the expected benefits are
- have an appendix (not included in the 2 page count) that provides a detailed description of how the presentation will be conducted (possibly illustrated with a number of snapshots or other types of multimedia content), information on tool availability and maturity in addition to a web-page for the tool (if one exists)
- be submitted before the Tool Demonstrations submission deadline, namely May 4 2007, to icsm-demo@ai.univ-paris8.fr
Presentation
Accepted demonstrations will be allocated 2 pages in the conference proceedings (the proposal appendix will not be included in the proceedings). In addition, demonstrators will be expected to give a presentation that will be scheduled into the conference program. There will also be a demonstration area open to attendees at scheduled times during the conference. Demonstrators are expected to be available to give their demonstrations during those times.
